Post Operative Instructions for Root Canal Treatment

At Dantkriti Dentofacial Aesthetics & Implant Centre our goal for your Root Canal Treatment (RCT) is to be as painless and comfortable and for those following instructions is important to avoid any unnecessary condition

Root Canal Root canal therapy can take 1 to 3 appointments to complete.

After the first appointment when an anesthetic has been used, your lips, teeth, and tongue may be numb for a few hours. Avoid chewing from the treated tooth side until treatment is complete.

A temporary filling or crown is placed to protect the tooth between the appointments.

In between appointments, if a small portion of your temporary filling or crown wears away or breaks off, it’s not a problem. if a temporary crown comes off or the entire filling falls off please call us.

  • Avoid chewing sticky foods such as gums, candies, and eclair.
  • Avoid biting hard food and substances,
  • If possible, chew only on the opposite side of your jaw.

It's normal to experience some discomfort for a few days after a Root Canal Treatment (RCT) appointment, especially while chewing

It is not very uncommon for a tooth to be a bit uncomfortable or even exhibit dull pain immediately after receiving root canal treatment and should subside within a few days.

Even if you don’t have any discomfort prior to Root Canal Treatment, it is normal for you to experience some discomfort for a few days after the treatment

Some tenderness is normal and is no cause for alarm.

To control discomfort, take pain medication as advised.

When antibiotics are prescribed, even if all symptoms and signs of infection are gone, continue to take them for the indicated length of time.

If you were not prescribed a pain killer by us but are experiencing pain or discomfort after your appointment, we recommend taking over-the-counter pain medication. We recommend Ketorolac (Ketorol DT).

In case you experience discomfort that cannot be controlled with pain medications or if any swelling develops, please call our dental office.

Maintain Oral Hygiene continue to brush and floss normally, rinse three times a day with salt water or mouth wash

After the root canal treatment, it is advised to place a crown or indirect restoration such as inlay/ onlay on the tooth.

Root canal-treated tooth is weaker when compared to a normal tooth and can easily get fractured when not restored properly

A crown protects the tooth from breaking, it is critical to have a crown placed on your root canal-treated tooth as soon as possible unless otherwise noted by the dentist.

Delay in obtaining final restoration (crown, inlay, onlay) may result in a fracture of the tooth.

If your bite feels uneven after treatment, you have persistent pain, or you have any other questions or concerns, please call our dental clinic in Gurgaon.
